Educational Philosophy I view the objective of the educational process as a metamorphous: the evolution of a dependent mind to an independent thinker and life-long learner, focusing not on the “work” involved, but rather the experience. The idea that knowledge is power is not new, but what is not always expressed is the idea that this power is more than money, authority or recognition, which is normally associated with the word. This educational power comes in the abstract form of freedom: freedom to choose our own course in life rather than accepting what is offered or left. It is the ticket that is needed to take us where we want to go, not where we end up. Education, life-long learning, opens our minds and creates the culture that empowers us to explore, to understand, to vision and to become individuals. It is this process that is the vocation of educators. We, as educators, have a moral duty to teach how to think rather than what to think, to lead students to self-discovery, to provide students with opportunities to succeed, to present students with cultural diversity, to challenge students with high expectations, and to provide students with the tools needed for academic excellence. It is an educational process that is the right of all students. Every student counts; every student can learn, and every student deserves equitable opportunities.
