Background:

It is with great pleasure and pride that I begin my twenty-seventh year teaching in the Grapevine-Colleyville I.S.D. After teaching one year in Sparta, Wisconsin; and two years in the Panama Canal Zone, I began teaching art at Grapevine Middle School in 1979. I spent ten years at Grapevine Middle school teaching art and yearbook. I loved the middle school age student, but decided I would like the challenge of teaching older students. I then transferred to Grapevine Junior High and taught art and PALS for 6 years. The GCISD PALS program started at Grapevine Junior High in my classroom. With the opening of Colleyville Heritage High School in 1996, I again accepted a new challenge and moved up to high school level art and PALS. I have been at CHHS ever since.

Teaching Philosophy:

I embrace the fact that we are all learners. Life is a learning process and school is an important component of that synthesis we are all going through. In my classroom, every student starts where he or she is at that point and continues on from there. Every student is unique and has an important statement to make through their artwork and contribution to the classroom atmosphere.

I have high expectations of my students, but I have the same expectation of myself. I am an artist myself and make my creative endeavors part of my teaching. I cannot expect the students to be actively involved in something unless I am also involved in it. I model what I teach. The creative process is a way of problem solving, a way to approach any situation that life sends your way.

Personal Statement:

My family is the center of my life. My wonderful family includes my husband, four children who live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and another child who lives in Austin, TX. I am also proud to say that I have four grandsons and three granddaughters. My husband and I, in planning for the future, have built a house in the mountains outside Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Besides my family and our house in Colorado, my interests outside of school include making jewelry, painting, drawing, computer aided design, reading and gardening.
