Background:

My teaching career began in 1974. I was hired by the University of Northern Colorado to work on the development and implementation of an educational pilot program on the Navajo Reservation in Shiprock,N.M. It was a boarding school designed to serve the needs of emotionally disturbed adolescents from all parts of the reservation.

The program was successfully implemented and turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the end of the first school year.

At this time I accepted a position with the Fort Lupton ISD as a work-study teacher.

I remained in this position for five years.

In 1980 I semi-retired to raise my own young children. I re-entered the profession in 1988 when I joined GCISD at the Charter Hospital campus. During this time I worked with adolescents who were experiencing a crisis in their young lives. The hospital closed in February of 1999 and I was extremely fortunate to join the staff of CHHS.

Teaching Philosophy:

We live in a world that has become much more complicated than when I was a teen-ager. As a result of the stresses and uncertainties that our kids face each day I strive to provide a nurturing, consistent environment in which the students feel comfortable and safe. I want them to “be themselves”, to show both their strengths and their weaknesses without fear of failure. I look for the goodness in each child and help then find the inner confidence to start each day with a positive attitude and a sense of personal responsibility.

Personal Statement:

I have been married for 29 years to my husband, George. We have three wonderful children. Our two oldest children graduated from college in Austin and are both employed there. Scott, our youngest is 14.
