* Texas Thespians State Board, 2003 I started my training in Theatre at a very young age. I was involved in numerous productions, although small, at my church while growing up. This love for theatre I had discovered prompted me to audition and join the Kaleidoscope Company – a youth acting troupe – upon entering high school. There I starred in a number of musicals and productions, as well as choreographing many of the musicals we performed due to my 15 years of dance experience. After graduation, I continued to be involved in this group helping coach drama camps and choreographing more musicals while I began college. After enrolling in Southwest Texas State University, I narrowed my focus from acting and performing to the art of directing. I studied directing as a separate field, while simultaneously studying the art of teaching Theatre. Throughout all of my prior experiences, the one thing I loved the most was working with young people, and I had always known that was what I needed to be doing.

Educational Philosophy: |
Many individuals think of Theatre Arts as simply that other elective they have to take. What they don’t realize is just how much one can learn in a Theatre Arts class. It’s not just about plays, actors, and performances. It is about getting up in front of other people and sharing with them a part of oneself he or she doesn’t normally express. It’s about reaching new depths of expression and discovering new emotions. Students will fine-tune their public speaking skills as well as projecting a sense of self-confidence and strength when talking and working with others. Theatre Arts will help prepare students for any situation they might encounter in their high school careers, as well as their careers after graduation. |
