Background: |
After graduating in December of 1981, I substituted as a teacher in various districts in the Milwaukee suburban area. I moved to Tampa, FL in 1982 and began teaching junior high Home Economics. After 3 years at the junior high level, I moved to the high school level where I taught for 10 years. My husband was then transferred to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I substitute taught for GCISD and CISD and took a position the following year in The Colony, TX at Griffin Middle School. In 1997, I was delighted to accept the position here at Colleyville Heritage. I have taught over 17 different preparations in the Home Economics and Health content areas at various schools. I have been involved with many committees and extra-curricular activities. At both the junior and senior high level, I sponsored the student vocational club, FHA-HERO (Future Homemakers of America-Home-Economics Related Occupations, now called FCCLA; Family, Career and Community Leaders of America). During my 9 years at Robinson High School in Tampa, I was the advisor of a girls service club called The Ladies of Camelot. I also was head coach of girl’s varsity and JV swimming and supervised the In School Suspension program at Robinson.

Educational Philosophy: |
Students learn best through hands on experiences and should have a variety of manipulatives, labs and real life experiences to enhance what they are learning through conventional methods. I think it’s imperative to connect what they are learning to their practical lives. Teachers need to use technology and creativity to foster a love of learning. Schools, communities and parents need to work together to make all students education a success.

Personal Statement: |
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Tom since 1984 and have 2 teenage boys: Matt and Jeff. They have a spoiled Golden named Sandy and a cat named Oreo. We enjoy spending the weekends at the boys sporting events. I also enjoy gardening, bird watching and reading. We are all avid Green Bay Packer fans. (Can I say that in Dallas?) |
