Background: During my first year of teaching, I taught in a program called Follow Through, a Head Start program for first, second, and third graders. I married and then went back to school full time to earn my master’s degree that included certification in special education. From that point on I was hooked and have stayed in the special services area. Most of my experience has been in the elementary schools (Cannon and Grapevine Elementary) but I love the challenge of secondary education!

Teaching Philosophy:

As a special services teacher, I believe that every child can learn. Because of the wide variety of developmental needs and skill levels in the special services classroom, each student is learning within a different range. I believe that one of my roles is to be a keen observer so that I may instruct each of my students within his or her range of learning. From these observations, I am able to set attainable goals and objectives for the students.

Personal Statement: I have been married to my husband, Mike, for 29 years. We have one son, John, who graduated from CHHS in 1998. John graduated from Vanderbilt University in May 2002 with a degree in Economics. He met Jen at Vanderbilt and they were married in July of 2002. John is working on getting a professional certificate in graphic design and Jen is working on her doctorate in neuro-science research. We moved here from Carmel, Indiana in 1996 when my husband was transferred. Mike and I like to travel, watch movies and play cards. I love dogs and most other animals!
