Campus Visit Suggestions & Questions

  1.  Go to a dormitory and see a student’s room.  Is there a laundry room in the dormitory?
  2.  Do the residence halls have lounges or study areas?
  3.  What kind of recreational facilities are available?
  5.  Are the residence halls secure?
  6.  Find out where the students “hang out,” and spend some time there yourself.
  7.  Visit the student union building.
  8.  Check out the size of the campus.  Is it manageable?
10.  Is a car necessary?
11.  Are the campus walkways and parking lot well lit?
12.  Have lunch with a student.  How is the food?
13.  Read the student newspaper:
       This is an excellent way to find out about day-to-day campus life.
14.  Talk with faculty as well as students.  Find out about the school from its “core.”
15.  Are members of the faculty accessible?
16.  Take notes, so you can compare the different schools you visit; you’d be surprised at
        how easy it is to confuse information from different schools.
17.  Take a camera.  Take photos of the most appealing aspects of the campus.
18.  Visit the departments that hold an interest for you: 
        You can usually arrange department tours or information sessions.
19.  Sit in on a class.  Ask pertinent questions.
20.  Determine if this is the type of academic and social environment you want to live in
       during the next four years.  The only way to decide is to look and ask.
