Correta Scott King Award |
The Coretta Scott King Award is presented to authors and illustrators of African descent whose books promote an appreciation of the "American Dream." |
Michael L.Printz Award |
The Michael L. Printz Award is an award given for literary excellence in young adult literature. |
John Newbery Award |
The Newbery Medal is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. |

Pura Belpré Award |
The Pura Belpré Award is presented biannually to a Latino writer/illustrator for children and youth and whose work best portrays the Latino cultural experience. |

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Award honors an U.S. author or illustrator whose books have made a lasting contribution to literature for children. |
Pulitzer Prizes |
Joseph Pulitzer's will made provision for the establishment of the Pulitzer Prizes as an incentive to excellence. He specified the following: 4 awards in journalism, 4 in letters and drama,1 for education, and 4 traveling scholarships. |
